A few mornings ago, Matt noticed a sound behind us - it was a slightly grinding sort of crunchy noise. Apparently grasshoppers are delicious for breakfast, at least for a mantis.

Apparently we're on similar wavelengths lately with predatory insects! Or maybe they're just more noticeable this time of year because they're all late instars or adults. Good stuff.
