Pyrgus philetas Por Fin!

Alliteration.

Heidi and I finally came across Desert Checkered-Skipper at the work site.
Did not detract from our responsibilities of employ, by the way.

  1. I love the second picture. Is the butterfly looking at the camera?! If so what did you do to get him/her to look at you? :)

    Great blog/post

  2. Sunning. It was warming up, likely. Not long after those photos were taken, it never cooperated again. Butterflies, cold-blooded as they are, sometimes give you a brief moment in the transition between cool morning and sun-coming-out late morning.

    Lucky.

  3. Nice! I like the checkered skippers, though they seem to be a bit of a taxonomic mess. I guess that doesn't really matter much when we're just enjoying their striking beauty! Do you know if that's a type of croton that it's perched on?
